day 102

Dear Bryan,

I know that being a server at Chili's must be a really hard job. You come across many different people from all walks of life, I'm sure. We may look like we're lots older than you, but in our heads...we're right there with you. Sure, we might have 19.5 children between us (counting all biological children, step-children, and fetuses) but don't let that fool you...we do not like being called ma'am! It kind of takes the joy out of being out with the girls...laughing really hard...eating fried food and dessert...then, to be called ma'am...it really hurts!! Plus, you look 12. Are you allowed to be out this late at night? While I do appreciate your effort to make up for your faux paux-- like the constant attention to my Diet Coke and the round of Happy Birthday for my sweet friend, Jenniffer-- it will never erase the fact that this word escaped from your lips! Please, do us all a favor, tell all of your friends, spread the word...your tip will be huge if you allow us to feel as young as we think we are!
Thank you, in advance, for your understanding and cooperation in this matter.
Julie

Ah. The old "I'll feel much better if I put someone else down" scam, huh? Sorry. Bryan is obviously challenged in some way....none of you look like a Ma'am to me.

I think we print it and send it on it's way. you do need to mention, though, that this 12 year old waiter should not be smoking! i think his smoke break interfered with us getting our utensils.

I HATE being called ma'am! It is so "disrespectful"! Bryan, learn some manners!

Ma'am is right there with "folks". I don't know which is worse.

Hey Jule...I am pathetic. Instead of working on my script, I drifted to your blog. I'm embarrassed to admit that I had to go back to day 55 of 102 to catch up on your photos. However, I loved them all!

I went out for my friend's 'hen's night' the other night....I asked the door-guy to card me....just to make me feel younger. He just looked at me like I was crazy!!

Stupid door-guy!! Stupid Bryan!!

Thought I'd take a look at your other blog after I checked in on your family blog. It's a good thing you don't live in Texas! Everyone says "ma'am." Many teachers at the school teach and/or expect their students to say "Yes, ma'am" and "No, ma'am" to them. We hear it a lot at church, too, and feel like we should teach our children to do the same so people don't think they're rude. Thing is, for that to be a true habit for our children, it would have to start at home, and Dave and I were NOT raised saying that, so we're not very committed to expecting to hear it at home. Plus, hearing it makes us feel old, too!
